Food & Dining at PMQ 元創方 | Hong Kong

Located in Central, PMQ is the latest creative hub for local designers to showcase their work and talent! The name stands for the former Police Married Quarters, which was built in 1951 and has been vacant since 2000. The vast and expansive site is now home to a 100+ entrepreneurs with studios, pop-up shops, cafes and restaurants. On selective dates, the Aberdeen Courtyard in the middle turns into a Night Market on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with the next one scheduled for July 25-27. The other buzzing eatery attached to PMQ is Aberdeen Street Social by Jason Atherton of 22 Ships, which is a bar and restaurant serving modern British cuisine located in the JPC building. I was curious to see what else is there to eat at PMQ so I went to check it out one weekend afternoon. PMQ comprises of 2 main buildings named Hollywood and Staunton - each named after the road it is adjacent to. Each building has 7 floors while the 4th floor is linked together through a walking bridge. Each floor features a long corridor with studios on one side, each approximately 450 square foot in size. It's small but at the same time perfect for boutique shops, galleries, cafes and the like to foster a sense of community.Besides the main buildings, there are also gardens and open spaces for people to stroll through for leisure and an underground tunnel that takes you through the foundations of the historic site.STAUNTON

The first cafe that caught my eye was Fatina & Chefo, EAT & PLAY by Chocolate Rain created by local designer Prudence Mak in Staunton. Chocolate Rain offers unique and handcrafted pieces of accessories and decorations inspired by a cute doll named Fatina who lives in a fantasy world called Mushroom Land. Daily special desserts, savories and snacks are served while you "enjoy eating and playing with Fatina and Chefo". The colorful and adorable displays facing Staunton street gives a glimpse into what to expect inside the cafe. It was closed off for a media event when I was there on that day, but it is usually opened from 4pm-10pm on Tuesday to Sunday. They take reservations via online and Whatsapp. Can't wait to come back and try the food!2559 0017http://www.fatinaandchefo.com/

Also in Staunton is Phoenix Sweets, which specializes in custom-made cakes, cupcakes and sweets for special occasions like wedding, birthday and anniversary. Designs are one-of-a-kind and customized according to your needs. The shop is bright and charming while filled with beautiful samples of their work!

HOLLYWOOD
SHOWcase by bread n butter is a concept store of the local brand with apparel, home decor, florist, and a modern French cafe with indoor and outdoor tables in the Hollywood building. Pandas are the latest trend recently due to the 1600 pandas world tour so it makes sense that the front of the shop has been cutely decorated with pandas. I stole a glance at the outdoor section of the cafe at the back of the store which looked relaxing with dreamy birdcages and comfy lounge furniture - perfect for an afternoon with French crepes and summery drinks!

I love to discover new bakeries and I was excited to see Levain Bakery on 1/F in Hollywood which specializes in artisan breads. Levain is a bread leavening agent used traditionally in France. The bread and pastries looked and smelled absolutely amazing, especially the baguettes, croissants and sour dough!

Right next to Levain is a cupcake shop called Natural Chiffon & CreamArt, which also produces innovative and functional foodware like tea bags and tongs that brings humor and fun into daily life. Made with no artificial coloring and flavoring, the cupcakes looked gorgeous with a wide variety of flavors!

There are a few more cafes and shops that were not opened yet or still renovating when I visited. Other notable restaurants in Hollywood include Isono Eatery & Bar and Vasco Spanish Fine Dining located on the 6/F and 7/F respectively - both newly launched by Drawing Room Concepts. Isono serves Mediterranean cuisine while Vasco focuses on contemporary Spanish fine dining led by a two-Michelin star chef from Barcelona. With all these new and exciting food and dining choices, take a spin through PMQ to see what appeals to you!
