[Macau] Taipa Village 氹仔舊城區 - Opening of Art Space

If you think Macau is just casinos and resorts, you may want to pay a visit to the Taipa Village which is the oldest and best-preserved area of Taipa! Formerly home to local fishermen, Taipa Village provides an escape from the glitz of the Cotai Strip as a culturally diverse landmark that offers visitors a taste of the original Macau with its blend of Portuguese and Chinese architecture. I haven't been to Macau for fun in a really long time so I was glad to be invited to the opening of the Taipa Village Art Space which aims to promote local and international artists as well as the cultural and creative industries in Macau. To celebrate the grand opening, they have invited local graffiti artist P.I.B.G to host his first solo exhibition "P.I.B.G: On the Verge" including graffiti murals on buildings and smaller art pieces inside the Art Space center which will last until January 8th, 2017.

This is P.I.B.G (Pat Is Bombing Graffiti) in the house!

We got treated to some lovely wine and canapes from Casa de Tapas at the grand opening party.

It turns out that P.I.B.G has also done an artwork for them on the ceiling of the restaurant!

After the opening party, I wandered around the Taipa Village and walked down the infamous Rua do Cunha (官也街) which is packed with souvenir shops and eateries!

The street was a bit touristy but I couldn't help but get some Portuguese egg tarts and pork chop buns from Kafelaku Coffee (貓屎咖啡) to try! They have 2 shops on this short narrow street so I figured they must be good but while the egg tart was decent, the pork chop bun was nothing like the ones I had when I was young - the pork chop was lean and dry with no other sauces or fillings. I need to find a better one next time in Macau!

I also tried the Serradura (Sawdust Pudding) from famous Gelatina Mok Yi Kei (莫義記) which is one of the oldest dessert shops around (80 years old apparently). They are also known for their Musan King durian ice cream and they were handing out samples to try on the street. Everything was pre-made and I thought the sawdust pudding was just okay but I thought the Musan King durian ice cream was really flavorful even though I don't usually like durian!
