[Hong Kong] Restaurant Petrus at Island Shangri-La

Restaurant Petrus at the Island Shangri-La Hotel has always been a classic choice for traditional French cuisine with fantastic views of the Hong Kong skyline. On the day of my visit, we were blessed with nice weather and thus were granted clear views of Victoria Harbour. It was my first visit to Petrus (believe it or not) and I was immediately awestruck by the regal dining room which looked like it was straight out of a French chateau.
Petrus has a pretty reasonable set lunch menu starting from HK$528 but we already had a special menu curated for us by the Chef Ricardo Chaneton who had worked at 2* Mirazur in France for 7 years.
We started our meal with a lovely Daniel Sorlut Special Oyster with physalis and shallot cream. I love physalis as a fruit but I wasn't sure if it may have been too sweet to be paired with the oyster.
The Red Prawn Tartare with Heirloom radish and yellow turnip puree was a refreshing dish but I felt that the combination of radish and turnip overwhelmed the flavors of the prawn a bit.
The Langoustine Paillard with Colonnata lard and Oscietra caviar was quite an interesting way to eat langoustine and one of the stand-out dishes of the meal.
Pan-seared Duck Foie Gras with mini apple confit with acacia honey and pollen
The Turbot was nicely cooked but it was the chickpeas ragout with calamari and chorizo underneath it that stole our hearts.
Lastly, we had this light and airy Affogato to end the meal.
For a restaurant named after a wine, of course the wine list at Petrus would not be disappointing and our wine pairing by the sommelier was hands down fantastic. Some of my favorites included the Pierre Peters Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Yves Cuilleron Roussilliere Doux 2014 and the Chateau d'Issan Margaux 2012 which was poured straight from this gigantic bottle!
