[Fukuoka] La Maison de la Nature Goh
Rating: ❤❤❤3/4 (3.75/5)
Our last dinner in Fukuoka on this trip was at La Maison de la Nature Goh - the only restaurant in Fukuoka that’s on the 2018 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. Located down a small alley, the restaurant serves French cuisine with a focus on Kyushu ingredients by Chef Takeshi Fukuyama. It's apparently very popular with locals and tourists alike as reservations can be hard to come by. Overall, I thought the food was decent and pretty good value with ¥6000 and ¥8000 omakase menus, but then again it would not be a restaurant I would trek to Fukuoka just for it. While I understand why locals would like it as there's not a lot of restaurants like it around the area, I just don't think it's delivering at the level to warrant it as a destination restaurant yet.
We started with this Caviar with Green Apple and Wasabi. The sweetness of the green apple purée really overwhelmed the flavors of the caviar - I could not taste the caviar at all unless I ate them separately.
The rest of the snacks were not all that memorable and we were starting to worry about the rest of our meal.
Luckily, we were then served the best dish of the night which was this Nagasaki Abalone and Shiitake Mushrooms with Brown Butter Sauce! To me this was the perfect embodiment of French technique with Japanese ingredients. If only there were more dishes like this...
Sawara with Turnip and Yuzu
Kyushu Wagyu Beef with Black Truffle Onion
Ending our meal with two desserts. The playfulness with the Gohdiva dessert reminds me of Den and Gaggan.
