While in Kuala Lumpur, we visited Dewakan by Chef Darren Teoh - the only 2* restaurant in Malaysia! Meaning “god” and “food” in the Malay language, Dewakan celebrates the indigenous roots of the country. The tasting menu uses ingredients sourced locally from nearby farms, mountains, and seas with a modern twist. Our dinner started with a kitchen tour and followed by a showcase of the local ingredients before settling in the dining room. Perched on the 48th floor, the restaurant offers stunning views of the city especially during sunset. The meal was certainly interesting and eye-opening to the ingredients and flavors of Malaysia but not all of the dishes worked for me - some favorites of the night included the Venison with various herbs, Smoked Patin with snake fruit & water chestnut, and Eggs with Kelulut Honey.
