[Japan: Osaka] Sushi L’Abysse by Yannick Alleno at Four Seasons Osaka
Follow me to Four Seasons Hotel Osaka which opened in August and is the 4th Four Seasons Hotel in Japan! The hotel’s design is deeply influenced by the city’s historic waterways and the splendor of Osaka Castle. I had a wonderful stay in the Deluxe Room with its contemporary Japanese aesthetics and view of the Osaka skyline. The spa occupies the entirety of the 36th floor which includes a 24-hr gym and an indoor 16 meter swimming pool with panoramic views of Osaka. The facility also offers a sauna and an ofuro for the best relaxation. There is also an exclusive “Gensui” floor which offers a modern ryokan experience - a hotel within a hotel if you will. Definitely want to stay there next time!
The showcase restaurant at the hotel is Sushi L'Abysse by Chef Yannick Alleno! Located on the 37th floor, we enjoyed panoramic views of the city while sitting at the counter. The restaurant is the third L’Abysse after the 2* original in Paris and Monte-Carlo. Reflecting Chef Alleno’s lifelong passion for Japan, the menu weaves together his French haute cuisine with Japanese traditions by sushi chef Yasuda Itaru. Our omakse started with Savory Emotions with creative bites such as the artichoke tofu and oyster with rice cream, followed by the Nigiri Collection with highlights including the otoro with fried scallions and akami with katsuobushi, before finally culminating with desserts by pastry chef Valentin Mille who is formerly of Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong.

Aside from Sushi L'Abysse, the hotel’s other dining options include Chinese restaurant Jiang Nan Chun and all-day bistro Jardin. The breakfast buffet is served at Jardin which has some incredible croissants and pastries by the way. Don’t miss the locally inspired cocktails at Bar Bota with a dramatic circular bar and commanding views of the city. My favorite cocktail was Contrast - an Old Fashioned with a Japanese twist.
