[China: Shanghai] Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund

Follow me to Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund which was the first Waldorf Astoria hotel to open in Asia! The property is actually made up of two buildings with a 100-year-old Heritage Building and a new modern tower. The Heritage Building was once the location of the legendary Shanghai Club - an exclusive gentlemen’s club opened in 1911. The hotel retained much of its English Renaissance heritage design and lovingly restored it to its heyday using historical photographs. See more about my stay in this reel!

We stayed in the Bund Heritage River View Suite - one of the 20 suites in the Heritage Building. Our suite was truly stylish with beautiful details such as a canopy bed, carved wooden cabinets, and claw-footed bathtub that brought us back to the glamour of 1920s. And of course nothing beats having spectacular views of the Shanghai skyline and the Bund right from your room.

For dining, the hotel is home to a plethora of options from Chinese cuisine at Wai King Kok, all-day dining at Grand Brasserie, afternoon tea at Peacock Alley, and Ling Long - the hottest table in town! For drinks, head to the Long Bar which resurrected the original famous Long Bar at the Shanghai Club - the 34 meters bar was recognized as the longest bar in the world at the time of opening back then. Don’t forget to try the Shanghai Buck - apparently China’s first cocktail which was created in 1911!

The breakfast at Grand Brasserie offers a long spread of buffet options along with a la carte items you can order from a menu including eggs and Shanghainese classics such as yellow croaker noodles.
